Abstract

While there are not many studies on the rituals for the police killed in South Korea, the recently discovered Photobook of the 6th National Commemoration of the Deceased Police Officers is the above memorial service held in Busan on May 4, 1953 by the Railroad Police Corps. It is presumed that it was personally produced after being fi lmed by a public aff airs staff member. According to this photo album, the bereaved families belonging to the Seoul and Gyeonggi Provincial Police Department departed from Daegu on May 3, and after the ceremony on May 4, the bereaved families attended a comforting event in Songdo, and in the afternoon, the police band performed at the Busan Th eater. Attended a family reunion. Th en, on the morning of May 6th, they left Busan with a gift from the security bureau. And if you look at the 34 photos attached here, some of them are listed as they are in Chulgyeong No. 19. In particular, if we analyze the number of deaths recorded on the mortuary tablet at the altar, the scope of the dead at that time included those killed in battle, as well as those killed during abduction or overwork. In addition, it is judged that there is no signifi cant diff erence compared to the number of Korean War casualties collected by the National Police Agency so far.
