IB PYP 음악 교육과정의 분석적 고찰

현재 세계 각국은 세계화와 정보화 시대에 대비하여 국제적인 소양을 갖추기 위한 학습자의 역량이나 세계적인 기준에 충족할 수 있는 교육과정 개발에 주력하고 있다. International Baccalaureate(이하 IB)는 국제인증 교육과정으로, PYP, MYP, DP, CP의 4개 프로그램으로 나누어진다. PYP는 유・초등교육과정으로, 본 연구는 IB의 PYP 음악 교육과정의 체계와 내용을 고찰하고 우리나라 음악 교육과정에 대한 시사점을 논의하였다. PYP 음악 교육과정은 국제적 소양 계발을 목표로 하여 예술 교과 영역의 공통 내용 구조에 따라 반응하기와 창작하기 요소로 나누어 요소별로 네 단계의 전반적 기대수준과 개념적 이해를 바탕으로 학습결과를 제시하고 있다. 학습결과에 대한 도달 여부는 음악학습 탐구 활동의 과정과 결과를 보여주는 프로젝트나 발표회를 통해 평가된다. PYP 음악 교육과정의 분석을 통해 얻을 수 있는 시사점으로는 교육과정 문서 방식의 방안, 교육과정의 설계에 있어 학교와 교사의 자기 주도성, 탐구 기반의 학습과 평가, 초등학교 1-2학년에서의 음악 교과 도입, 독보 및 기보 능력의 강조를 제시하였다. IB의 국제 통용성이 높다고 해도 국가마다 사회적 필요와 학습자의 요구가 달라 이를 우리나라 교육과정에 반영했을 때 본래의 의도를 온전하게 달성할 수 있는 것은 아니기 때문에 PYP 음악 교육과정을 그대로 수용할 수는 없다. 따라서 본 연구결과를 토대로 내실 있는 음악교육과정 개발을 위한 교육과정의 시각과 관점 전환과 함께 우리나라 상황에 적절한 음악 교육과정의 설계 방식과 운영에 대한 보다 심도 있는 연구와 노력을 통해 우리나라 음악교육의 질을 높일 수 있을 것이다.
Abstract
Currently, many countries in the world are focusing on the development of curricula that meets global standards and fosters learners' competencies to acquire international mindset in the globalization and information age. International Baccalaureate (IB) is an international accreditation curriculum and is divided into four programs: PYP, MYP, DP and CP. PYP is a kindergarten and elementary school curriculum. This study examined music scope and sequence of IB's PYP and discussed the implications for Korean music curriculum. PYP's music scope and sequence aims to develop international mindness. It is divided into the elements of reacting and creating according to the common content structure of arts subject. Each element presents learning outcomes based on four phases of overall expectations and conceptual understanding. Achievement of the learning outcomes is assessed through projects or exhibitions that show the process and results of inquiry activities in musical learning. The implications include curriculum documentary method, schools and teachers' agency in curriculum design, inquiry-based learning and assessment, and the introduction of music curriculum in grades 1-2, and emphasis on notation. Although the international compatibility of IB is high, it is not possible to adopt PYP's music scope and sequence as it is. This is because each country has different social necessities and learners' needs. When PYP's music scope and sequence is reflected in Korean music curriculum, its original intention cannot be fully achieved. Therefore, based on the results of this study, the quality of Korean music education can be improved through in-depth research and efforts on the design and operation of the music curriculum appropriate to the Korean situation, along with changing the perspective for the development of substantial music curriculum.
