대학입학전형에 따른 대학생들의 학업성취도 및 중도탈락률 차이 분석

본 연구에서는 국내 수도권 소재 4년제 국립 A대학의 2015학년도부터 2019학년도까지의 입학생에 대해 입시 및 학적 데이터를 사용하여 대학입학전형과 성별이 학업성취도와 중도탈락률(제적률)에 미치는 영향력을 통계적으로 분석하였다. 우선 데이터 전처리 과정을 통해 입시 데이터와 학적 데이터를 통합, 변형하고 결측치를 제거하였으며, 일원배치분산분석과 독립표본 t-검정, 교차분석 등의 통계분석을 사용하여 두 개 이상의 집단들 간에 학업성취도와 중도탈락률에 유의미한 차이가 있는지를 검증하였다. 그 결과 다음과 같은 분석결과를 얻을 수 있었다. 첫째, 학생부교과전형, 학생부종합전형, 정시전형 등의 세 가지 입학전형 유형에 따른 평점평균의 유의한 차이가 존재하였으며, 학생부종합전형, 학생부교과전형, 정시전형 순으로 평점평균이 높았다. 둘째, 성별에 따른 평점평균의 차이를 분석한 결과, 여학생의 학업성취도가 남학생보다 유의하게 높은 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 정시전형 입학생의 제적률이 수시전형 입학생의 제적률보다 통계적으로 유의하게 높은 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구는 5년이라는 비교적 장기간에 걸친 입시 및 학적 빅데이터를 통합적으로 분석했다는 점에서 의의가 있으며, 본 연구 결과가 국내 대학의 입학전형 계획 수립 및 재학생 지도에 참고자료로 활용될 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.
Abstract
In this paper, we analyze the effect of college admission options and gender on academic achievement and dropout rates using 5-year admissions and academic achievement data of students admitted to a national university located around the capital area. Firstly, we integrate admission data and academic achievement data, remove missing values, and transform some variables as needed. Since then, we perform statistical analysis such as one-way ANOVA, t-test, and Chi-square test to verify differences in academic achievement and dropout rates between different groups of students. The main findings from the statistical analysis are as follows. First, there exists a statistically significant difference between academic achievement of students from different admissions options: the average GPA of students from early admissions is higher than that of students from regular admissions. Second, there is a statistically significant difference between academic achievement of different genders: an average GPA of female students is higher than that of male students. Third, the average dropout rate of students from regular admissions is higher than that of early admissions. This study is meaningful in that it analyzed big data of university students during a long period and draw insights from the data, which can be utilized to improve admission policies with the objective of both enhancing academic achievement and reducing dropout rates of students.
