Abstract

Is it better to set the employment goal when the grade is lower? This study analyzes the impact of employment goals setting time on employment performance of university graduates. Different from previous studies, this study subdivides the timing of setting employment goals by semester, and measures labor market employment performance by dividing it into two dimensions: job probability and job quality (commercial job employment, job satisfaction and work satisfaction, and wage level). The results of empirical analysis using the Korea Employment Information Service's 2018 Graduate School Mobility Survey (GOMS) confirm that employment goals setting time is closely related to the labor market employment performance of university graduates. First, the timing of setting employment goals affects the probability of employment. Establishing employment goals in the early semester (second semester) or too late (8 semesters) has a negative effect on the probability of employment. Establishing too late employment goals (8 semesters) has a negative effect on the probability of employment in commercial jobs. Second, the timing of establishing employment goals affects the quality of employment for the employed. setting employment goals at an early stage (1st, 2nd semester) does not have a significant effect on the probability of employment and wage level in commercial jobs, and establishing employment goals at a late stage (8th semester) does not significantly increase job satisfaction and work satisfaction. The results of this empirical analysis of this study suggest that there is a right time to establish employment goals, and that it is necessary to reorganize university career education reflecting this.
