이 연구의 목적은 『새번역』의 시편 110편에 나오는 “아도니”(1절)와 이를 받는 인칭대명사 접미사 “카”(2, 3, 5절)의 번역의 문제점을 밝히고 새로운 대안을 제안하는 것이다. 연구를 위해 언어학적, 해석학적, 정경적 접근을 방법론으로 사용하고 있다. 언어학적인 관점에서 볼 때, “아도니”는 “주님”(이 단어는 야훼를 위해 사용되기 때문에)이라는 말보다는 “주”로 번역하는 것이 낫고, 인칭대명사 접미사 “카”는 “임금님”보다는 “당신/주”라고 번역하는 것이 보다 적절하다고 본다. “카”를 “임금님”으로 번역하는 것은 해석학적인 관점에서 이의 저작배경을 왕의 대관식을 전제한 번역이기 때문에 이 시편을 메시아적인 시편으로 이해하는 견해를 수용할 수 없다. 이에 대한 해결책은 “카”에 맞는 인칭대명사(당신/주)로 번역하는 것이다. 인칭대명사 접미사 “카”를 원문에 없는 “임금님”이라는 말로 번역하게 되면 정경적 관점에서 시편 110편의 이해에 어려움을 주게 된다. 신약 저자들은 시편 110편의 “아도니”를 정치적인 왕을 지칭하는 것으로 보지 않고 초월적 신적 존재로서 ‘메시아’를 지칭하는 말로 이해한다. 『새번역』이 “카”를 “임금님”이라고 번역한 것은 마소라 사본과 칠십인역과 이를 인용하고 있는 신약 본문 어느 것과도 어울리지 않는 번역이다. 대부분의 한국어와 영어 번역본들처럼 인칭대명사 접미사 “카”는 이에 상응하는 인칭대명사로 번역하는 것이 최상의 번역이라고 본다.

Abstract

The goal of this study is to investigate the translation of “a doni” (v. 1) and of the personal pronominal suffix “ka” (vv. 2, 3, 5) in Psalm 110 in the Revised New Korean Standard Version (RNKSV) and to suggest a new translation for them. The methods used for this research are the linguistic, hermeneutical, and canonical approaches. From the linguistic perspective, it would be better for the word “adoni” to be translated into the word “joo” (the Lord) than into the word “joonim” (because this word is used for Yahweh). “Neoeui/jooeui” (your) translates the personal pronominal suffix “ka” more accurately than the current translation “imkeumnimeui” (the king’s). From the hermeneutical perspective, because the translation of “ka” into “the king’s” presupposes the background of Psalm 110 as the king’s enthronement ceremony, this translation does not match the understanding of the psalm as the messianic psalm. The best option for the translation of “ka” is a translation correspondent to its personal pronoun (your). If the personal pronominal suffix “ka” is rendered into “the king’s” which is not used in the original language, it may bring about problems in understanding Psalm 110 from the canonical perspective. The New Testament authors do not understand “adoni” of Psalm 110 in terms of a political king but take it as referring to the transcendental divine Messiah . RNKSV’s rendering of “the king’s” does not correspond to MT, LXX, and the NT quotations of Psalm 110. The best translation of it is to render the personal pronominal suffix “ka” into the personal pronoun corresponding to it, following the models of the majority of the Korean and English translations.
