초록
Karl Rahner's concept of "anonymous Christianity" is rooted in the Catholic tradition and addresses the contextual situation where the very applicability of "extra ecclesiam nulla salus" is questioned and receives further inquiries. Rahner's theological voice deserves recognition for its points of contribution, and calls for a serious theological assessment due to its soteriological and ecclesiological implications and connotations. Various theological elements including faith, grace, morality, the sovereignty of God, proclamation and salvation are observed in the dynamic of discourse. G. C. Berkouwer engages with Rahner's idea in his chapter on the catholicity of the church in Nabetrachting op het Concilie (1968) and De Kerk I (1970). The Dutch theologian critically examines the core motives and thoughts around the notion, and after critiquing an overly speculative character of Rahner's theorisation, provides a gospel-centred answer from a Reformed perspective. Considering this, the paper delves into Berkouwer's analysis of and response to Rahner's "anonymous Christianity." Rahner's texts and other related resources including Lumen Gentium (1964) are investigated, as well. The present study proceeds with a further theological discussion of key soteriological and ecclesiological issues related to the concept.
