Abstract

This study analyzes the Old Testament story of Joseph (Genesis 37–50) by integrating it with Trauma-Informed Care (TIC) and Post-Traumatic Growth (PTG) theories, and based on this, explores practical implications for the complex trauma healing of middle-aged Korean men. The research analyzes the complex traumatic events in Joseph’s life and interprets his recovery process by connecting it with the five core principles of TIC. Furthermore, based on PTG theory, the study examines how Joseph experienced deepened self-awareness, restructured relationships, discovered new possibilities, deepened spirituality, and reconfigured life values after trauma. Through this, therapeutic approaches such as building psychological safety, restoring trust, strengthening autonomy, community-based healing, respecting cultural sensitivity, and supporting meaning-making are proposed to address the complex trauma issues faced by Korean middle-aged men, including economic failure, social isolation, and psychological maladjustment. This study offers new practical insights into trauma healing for middle-aged men through the integration of biblical narrative and contemporary social work theory.
