초록
The global spotlight has turned to the South Korean media industry, recognizing its commitment to technological innovation and its expanding role as a content provider. In recent years, virtual production studios, primarily in North America and Western Europe, have experienced rapid growth and even assisted in the development of South Korean virtual production facilities and content. This dynamic shifted when South Korean entertainment companies began establishing their own virtual production studios, challenging overseas production, and striving to match their level through innovative approaches in technologies and storytelling. This research examines the rise of LED-based virtual production studios in South Korea, such as Dexter Studios, VA Corporation, and CJ ENM Entertainment, as well as the creation of one of the world’s first and largest micro-LED virtual studios. The study explores South Korean films and TV shows such as The Silent Sea (2021), Seoul Vibe (2022), and Queen of Tears (2024), which utilized LED screens to enhance the narrative’s temporal and spatial elements. Although overseas virtual production studios still lead in terms of quantity, South Korean entertainment companies prioritize quality. By combining conventional filming techniques with LED studio structures, they have enhanced visual quality at the global level and gained local creative autonomy.
