연구목적: 본 연구는 남자간호사와 함께 근무한 경험이 있는 여자 동료간호사들이 간호현장에서 체험한 경험을 확인하고 심층적으로 탐색하여 그 의미와 구조를 밝히기 위함이다. 연구방법: 남자간호사와 6개월 이상 근무한 경험이 있는 11명의 여자간호사를 대상으로 면담한 결과를 현상학적 방법으로 분석한 질적연구이다. 연구결과: 본 연구를 통하여 20개의 주제와 6개의 중심의미를 확인하였다. 본 연구에서 도출된 중심의미는'남자간호사에 대한 선입견 및 편견', '함께 근무하는 것이 꺼려짐', '기대에 미치지 못하는 실망감', '부적절한 태도로 인한 심리적 불편함', '수용하는 마음가짐', '간호직 위상에 기여할 수 있다는 기대감'이었다. 결론: 본 연구결과는 남자간호사와 함께 근무하는 여자간호사들의 긍정적, 부정적 경험을 심층적으로 이해하는데 도움을 줄 뿐 만 아니라 남자간호사들의 간호현장 적응을 증진하기 위한 효율적인 전략을 개발하는데 유용하게 활용될 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.
Abstract
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to explore the experiences of female nurses who are working with the male nurse as a colleaguein the clinical settings. Methods: Eleven female nurses who were working with a male nurse over six months were interviewed, andthe data were analyzed by using the Giorgi’s phenomenological method. Results: Six main meanings and nineteen themes emerged throughthis study. The six main meanings were as follows; prejudice against male nurses’ roles, difficulties in establishing collaboration andtrust as a peer, deficit of intimacy due to inappropriate attitude, weakening stereotypes ideas about male nurses, permissive mind ofgender difference and individuality, expectations to the male nurses’ contributions to nursing profession. Conclusion: These results couldbe utilized in the development of effective strategies to improve the male nurses’ adaptation to the nursing clinical settings.
