Abstract

In Korea, where rapid economic development has occurred since the financial crisis, support for social enterprises is being actively provided as a way to solve social problems such as population aging, environmental pollution, and an increase in the unemployment rate. Companies aiming to pursue profits are also gradually showing interest in the social economy as the times change, and in 2022, support projects centered on the social economy are gradually increasing in the field of start-ups as the existing entrepreneurship is included in the declaration of new entrepreneurship. However, most start-up support is mainly for the purpose of profit-seeking, so it is time to present new standards for start-ups tailored to the increase in support projects in the social economy. Start-ups in the field of social enterprises are expected to be different from those of general companies in that they aim at voluntary participation and social contribution of members, and a consistent and continuous mindset focused on social values, not just profits, acts as an important variable. In this sense, grit, which means passion and persistence that lasts for a long time toward a goal, can be seen as an important factor in starting a social enterprise. Therefore, this study attempted to suggest the direction of start-up support by studying the effect of Grit among psychological characteristics along with social entrepreneurship on the willingness to start a social enterprise, and by studying the effect of social entrepreneurship, personal psychological factors such as Grit, and start-up support on the willingness to start a social enterprise. As a result of the analysis, it was found that people with high social entrepreneurship spirit had an increased willingness to start a social enterprise when the start-up support policy was used as a mediating effect, and grit did not show a significant result. The research results can be used as meaningful data when developing support policies for social enterprise start-ups, and suggest implications in terms of establishing a social entrepreneurship framework that can increase the mediating effect of start-up support.
