Abstract
This study analyzes the factors affecting carbon intensity, defined as total sales to carbon emissions, for firms participating in the 3rd phase of the KETS(Korean emission trading schemes), and investigates whether the KETS is inducing participants' technological innovation based on the dynamic efficiency of market. From the result of the panel analysis, it is concluded that the implementation and introduction of the KETS have a statistically significant effect on improving the carbon intensity of market participants. On the other hand, it is concluded that the KETS does not accelerate the effect of reducing carbon intensity through R&D investment by firms. Therefore, in order to improve the efficiency of the KETS, it is necessary to induce voluntary technological innovation of participants by increasing the proportion of paid allocation of carbon emission permits and reducing the volatility of emission price, and actively establish government support policies related to greenhouse gas reduction for technology development and demonstration projects for industries.
