체육과 내용의 본질과 도구로써의 ‘신체 활동’의 교육적 의미와 지향성 탐색

우리나라 제1차 체육과 교육과정부터 제7차 체육과 교육과정은 스포츠 중심 교육내용으로 구성되어 왔고, 지금까지 체육과 교육내용의 본질과 도구로써 활용되어 왔다. 최근 스포츠가 본래의 의미와 특성을 유지하지 못한 채 사회적 변화와 흐름에 따라 변화과정을 거치면서 스포츠의 긍정적인 교육적 속성을 상실하기 시작하였다. 스포츠의 주관적 체험, 단련과 훈육, 몸의 내적 변화와 같은 교육적 가치는 지나친 객관화 추구, 유희성과 오락성 추구, 그리고 몸의 외적 변화 추구를 직면하게 되었다. 스포츠의 본질이 퇴색된 변화과정은 체육교과의 정체성이 수행교과가 아닌 기능교과로 인식되고, 즐거움이나 스트레스 해소라는 비교육적인 역할이 부과되었으며, 건강과 체력 증진이라는 체육과의 실용적 목적만을 중요시하는 부정적인 영향을 낳았다. 따라서 본 글은 체육과 내용의 본질과 도구로써 대안적으로 도입된 ‘신체활동’이 가지고 있는 교육적 의미와 지향성을 탐색하는 데 목적을 두고 있다. 신체활동이 가지고 있는 교육적 의미는 활기차고 건강한 생활 습관의 형성에 필요한 라이프 기술(life skill) 개발에 있다. 또한 신체활동이 교육적으로 지향하는 5가지 교육 방향, 즉 활동성의 추구, 정합성의 추구, 일상성의 추구, 통합성의 추구, 그리고 포괄성의 추구를 논의하였다. 끝으로 스포츠가 거쳐 온 변화과정과 교육적 한계를 재생산하지 않기 위하여, 체육과 내용의 초점을 올바르게 정립하기 위한 몇 가지 제언을 추가하였다.
Abstract
Since the first revision of national physical education curriculum in middle and high school, sport has been used an essence and tool of physical education content. Recently, even if sport has many educational values, sports are being criticised as the educational essence and tool, because the essence of sport has dramatically changed. That is, the realities of current sport have characterized as quantification, entertainment, and externalism. The changing realities of sport have resulted in perceiving as a skill-based subject, using as a tool of getting rid of stress, and loading over-emphasized health and fitness promotion. Thus, the purpose of this paper is to understand the educational meanings and orientations of physical activity as the essence and tool of physical education content. The educational meaning of physical activity is considered 'life skill' that promote a healthy and active lifestyle. In addition, five educational orientations such as activeness, coherence, feasibility, integration, and inclusiveness are indicated. Finally, some directions are suggested to promote the educational meanings and orientations of physical activity, unlike sport has been resulted in educational limitations mentioned in this paper.
