Abstract
This study empirically analyzed the impacts of union members’ perception of union instrumentality and them and us attitude on the ideological sympathy of the union militancy and moderation. The data set which surveyed the union members affiliated with FKTU or KCTU in Changwon City was analyzed through hierarchical regression method. the results are as follows. First, them and us attitude of union members made the positive impacts on the ideological sympathy of union militancy, but not on that of union moderation. Second, members’ perception of union instrumentality made impacts on the ideological sympathy of both union militancy and moderation. Third, them and us attitude of members neutralized the impacts of union instrumentality on the ideological sympathy of union moderation but enforced the impacts of union instrumentality on the ideological sympathy of union militancy. The opposition direction of moderating effects of them and us attitude toward union militancy and moderation means that members’ pragmatism match well with union moderation. This finding proposes the significance of fit between members' social psychology and labour union ideology to ignite members' activism, and challenges kelly(1996) who proposed that union moderation might undermine the foundation of members’ activism.
