Abstract
The 2022 revised curriculum emphasizes enhancing student agency through in-depth learning. To achieve profound teaching and learning, a proper analysis of achievement standards is essential. This study examines the two-dimensional achievement standards analysis method predominantly used in the 2015 revised curriculum, identifies their limitations and proposes a three-dimensional achievement standards analysis method. Furthermore, the process of applying this method is illustrated using the elementary science unit ‘Climate Change and Our Lives’ as an example. The three-dimensional achievement standards analysis method incorporates the process of concretizing performance verb presented in the two-dimensional achievement standards analysis method while emphasizing the formulation of generalized statements through concept extraction at the unit and lesson levels. By applying this three-dimensional achievement standards analysis method, not only in science but also in other subjects, both teachers and students are expected to find answers to ‘why we teach’ and ‘why we learn’, serving as a starting point for deeper learning.
