Abstract
The Baekdudaegan is the watershed that serves as the backbone of the Korean Peninsula, both in traditional geographic understanding and in actual geomorphological terms. Recently, there has even been a movement to establish a "new Baekdudaegan" that is more geomorphologically meaningful, utilizing GIS and other tools. This is due to the considerable discrepancies between the actual watershed and the Baekdudaegan system, and discrepancies are often found between ancient maps and documents. This study, particularly regarding the latter, focuses on the bifurcation of the Baekdudaegan and brunch veins, where differences in geographical perception are most evident. As a result, I hypothesize that the primary cause of the discrepancy stems from inconsistencies in the process of integrating three scales: the macroscopic perception of the Baekdudaegan, the mesoscopic perception at the river basin level, and the county-level mountain range recognition. I plan to further strengthen this hypothesis by analyzing other veins in near future.
