초록
It has been rather difficult to define how the world of icons and means of creating images should be interrelated in the age of multimedia when diversified and generalized expressions are used to display individual paradigms. Accordingly, we need to establish more diversified paradigms in line with the changing trends of times. Nevertheless, a limited way of expressing holy sanctity seems to hold the approach away from the essence itself. Hence, this study shall review the background of icon creation that has adhered to the standard structure of holy images and indicate the consolidated issue of the absolute sublime structure of icons and the public ideology of the times. In addition, this study shall suggest an appropriate convergence structure from the viewpoint of religion and artistic expression by analyzing some modern works which interrelate the phases of modern times and the parameters of holiness in formative structure. First, this study reviewed the historical background of the icon debate by the Eastern Church; its aesthetic nature was entangled in keen and prolonged confrontation on the issue of recreating transcendental existence based upon the common aim of both religion and the arts endeavoring to disclose immanent existence. Secondly, this paper shall identify the limitations of icons that have adhered to absolute structure, suggest popular modern and experimental artists as examples of "creative reproduction," and indicate diversified expansion. Moreover, in the structure of media art and technology, artists analyse the sublime experience as immanent expressions. The immanent consolidation and circulating structure of religion and the arts are not immutable staying fixed to any particular time or way of expression but instead should be created amid the enduring challenge against the will and creative spirit of artists, reflecting reality and the communicative structure. This does not connote an unconditional succession of tradition but instead a succession as "creative reproduction" consolidated with the times; the researcher desires to assert that the immanent media and meanings could deliver inspiration to the public.
