본 연구는 조나단 드미(Jonathan Demme)의 영화 맨추리안 캔디데이트에 대하여 불확실한 서사구조와 시각적 확실성의 변증법적 봉합구조를 드러내는 재현영화의 관점에서 분석하였다. 이 영화에서, 비록 감독이 9/11사건의 외적 그리고 내적인 국가적 서사구조를 재구성하려고 시도하였지만, 영화는 동시에 인종적인 문제점과 정치적인 이슈를 시각화하고 있다. 이러한 이유로, 이 영화는 9/11 이후에 미디어 실행과 관련하여 데쿠파주의 형식으로 보여질 수 있다. 본 연구는 또한 이 영화를 현재 미국의 대중이 미디어 실행의 산물로 각인된 대중 회상이나 주관성에 대한 재 읽기를 통한 정신분석 방법론으로 주로 분석하였다. 이러한 분석을 통하여, 본 연구는 또한 또 다른 기억과 역사주의 사이에 시각적 재현의 이중구조를 재해석하기를 시도하였다.
Abstract
This paper explores the film Manchurian Candidate directed by Jonathan Demme in view of that it is a representative film that reveals dialectic contract between uncertain narrative and visual certainty. In this film, although the director attempts to deconstruct national narrative in and out of the evental 9/11, the film simultaneously visualizes race-gender politics. For this reason, it can be shown as a form of decoupage in relation to media practice after 9/11. Hence, this paper would analyze the film mainly with the method of psychoanalysis to reread mass memory and subjectivity inscribed in current U.S.’s mass as the outcome of media practice in those days. By this analysis, this paper also attempts to reinterpret the dual structure of visual representation between ‘an-other’ memory and historicism.
