Abstract

Todd Phillips' film <Joker> is a profound exploration of the absurdity of human existence. <Joker> depicts the downfall of an individual who longs for recognition and a happy life but gradually collapses under frustration and suffering. By illustrating this trajectory through absurdity, the film prompts the audience to deeply reflect on human existence and the truth of life. This study examines the three key elements of absurdity in <Joker> : laughter, humiliation, and the media. It explores how absurdity is represented in the film, what events and aspects of humanity are presented to reveal the absurdity of the world, and how Arthur’s predominant emotions relate to absurdity. Through this analysis, the study argues that the film does not merely offer a detailed portrayal of personal tragedy but critically examines the absurdity of the world and the Other, born as its consequence. In doing so, <Joker> encourages viewers to contemplate the meaning of absurdity from multiple perspectives.
