Abstract
This study investigated the effects of rhythm-based basketball shooting training on free-throw accuracy, release timing stability, and psychological flow. Forty male college students were randomly assigned to either an experimental group (n=20), which received six weeks of metronome-cued training, or a control group (n=20), which followed standard practice. Free-throw accuracy (%) and release timing variability (SD in seconds) were measured using a gyroscopic smart basketball, and flow experience was assessed via the Flow State Scale-2 (FSS-2). The experimental group showed significant improvements in free-throw accuracy (61.5% to 75.8%, p<.001), reduced release variability (0.84s to 0.64s, p<.001), and increased flow scores (3.0 to 3.5, p<.001). The control group showed no meaningful change. 2-way Mixed ANOVA revealed significant time effects and group differences post-training. These findings suggest that rhythm-based training enhances technical accuracy, temporal stability, and mental focus. Incorporating rhythmic cues offers a practical, scalable strategy to improve performance and engagement in basketball and other sports.
