Abstract

This study was carried out with the aim to derive initiatives based on platform strategy in order to facilitate technology transfer and commercialization in the Korean government- funded research institutes (GRIs). To this end, “Focus Group Interview for public- to-private technology transfer in GRIs” consisting of nine commercialization experts, was administered four times across the year of 2015. As a result, the study derived five directions for promoting public-to-private technology transfer in GRIs in the perspectives of strategy planning, process, organization & infra, network, and investment. Based on the improvement directions, the study suggested five implementation strategies and twelve detailed initiatives that build “a platform for public-to-private technology transfer in GRIs”. To be specific, the five implementation strategies are represented by subordinate platforms such as a platform for creating high-quality IP, a platform for promoting technology transfer, a platform for enabling start-ups, a platform for enhancing TLO capabilities, and a platform for globalization and association.
