Abstract
The progress of the manufacturing industry is strongly connected with regional growth and has a significant impact on regional potential. In this context, regional capabilities are effectively demonstrated at the metropolitan level, and the megaregions policy was highlighted as a strategy to overcome regional disparities. Acknowledging the significance of manufacturing and the necessity for metropolitan-level analysis, this study analyzed the growth factors of manufacturing by region through dynamic shift-share analysis, based on the number of workers retrieved from Mining and Manufacturing Survey. This approach decomposed regional industrial growth into National Shift, Industrial Mix, and Regional Shift. As a result, it was found that the value of National Share is determined according to the level of response to macroeconomic fluctuations. In addition, as the driving force of growth shifts from manufacturing to other industries, the sign of Industrial Mix appeared negative in all regions. Finally, the sign of Regional Share varied by region, suggesting that Regional Share is an important factor in regional growth. These results imply that for regional growth, it is necessary to implement policies that not only enhance the entire country's manufacturing industry but also promote the growth of specialized manufacturing sectors to each region.
