Abstract

This study investigates how variations in resource mobilization strategies influence content innovation among broadcasting companies, with particular attention to the moderating role of organizational autonomy based on firm size. Utilizing panel regression analysis on ten years of data from domestic Program Providers (PP) reported to the Korea Communications Commission, the findings reveal that coercive pooling negatively affects content innovation, whereas manipulative pooling exerts a positive influence. Additionally, normative pooling from governmental and local authorities is found to promote content innovation in firms characterized by greater organizational autonomy stemming from larger scale. While prior research has largely treated external resource inflows in the broadcasting sector in a superficial manner, this study applies resource dependence theory—a framework from management and sociology that explains asymmetrical stakeholder dynamics—to offer a more robust and theoretically grounded understanding of how resource environments shape innovation outcomes in media organizations.
