The above-mentioned project is an international co-production film between Korea and Japan, co-produced by a world-renowned Japanese master filmmaker Kawase Naomi, aiming at international film festivals and art film theaters from the development stage. The film has been awarded by the Busan International Film Festival, the Seoul Independent Film Festival, the Korean Association of Film Critics Award, etc., and has attracted more than 30,000 viewers, since its theatrical release in Korea. This study describes the film’s development and production processes as a case study on internationally co-producing independent art films, and considers how the project could derive creative work from various limitations and challenges. Furthermore, covering issues on distribution of domestic art films, this study seeks to find solutions on how to make art films sustainably.
