기업은 사회적, 문화적 측면에서 막대한 영향력을 끼치며, 국가 및 지역 경제를 견인하는 역할을 한다. 기업기록은 역사적, 경제적, 사회적으로 다양한 가치를 지니며 공공기록으로는 포괄할 수 없는 대체 불가한 성격을 지닌다. 하지만 기업의 아카이브 문화는 법적 근거의 미비와 사회적 무관심 등으로 발전하지 못하고 있다. 이에 본 연구는 그동안 협소하게 다뤄졌던 기업 아카이브의 가치를 환기시키고, 기업 아카이브를 위한 국가의 역할과 활동을 촉구하기 위해 기업 아카이브 ‘활성화’를 위한 ‘국가전략’의 수립을 제안하는데 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 영국의 기업아카이브협의회(Business Archives Council)의 활동과 국립기록보존소(The National Archives)의 ‘기업 아카이브를 위한 국가전략(National Strategy for Business Archives)’을 포괄적으로 조감하고, ‘기업 아카이브 관리(Managing Business Archives)’ 웹사이트의 내용을 분석하여 영국 국가전략의 특징 및 시사점을 정리하였다. 이를 토대로 기업 아카이브 활성화를 위해 국가기록원을 중심으로 지방기록물관리기관 및 대학 기록관, 협의회, 학계의 역할을 제시함으로써 기업 아카이브 문화의 확산을 도모하고자 하였다.
Abstract
Businesses exert significant influence on social and cultural aspects while driving national and regional economies. Corporate records possess diverse values including historical, economic, and social significance, and have an irreplaceable nature that public records cannot encompass. However, the culture of corporate archives has not developed due to inadequate legal foundations and social indifference. This study aims to propose the establishment of a “national strategy” for “revitalizing” corporate archives to reawaken the value of corporate archives, which has been narrowly addressed, and to urge the role and activities of the state for corporate archives. To this end, the study comprehensively reviews the activities of the Business Archives Council in the UK and the “National Strategy for Business Archives” by The National Archives, and analyzes the content of the “Managing Business Archives (MBA)” website to summarize the characteristics and implications of the UK national strategy. Based on this, the study seeks to promote the spread of corporate archive culture by presenting the roles of local records management institutions, university archives, councils, and academia centered on the National Archives to revitalize corporate archives.
