최근 프로 문학 연구의 전개 양상과 그 전망

이 글은 프로 문학 연구 붐이 일었던 1980년대 중후반 경의 프로 문학 연구 성과를 발전시키거나 극복하고 있는 최근의 연구 성과를 검토하고 앞으로의 전망을 모색하기 위해 쓰였다. 논의의 중심은 기존의 연구 방법론과 관점에 대해 비교적 뚜렷한 거리 두기를 시도하고 있는 논저들을 검토하는 데 있다. 검토 방향은 크게 세 가지로 정리된다. 첫째, 과거의 연구사에서 상대적으로 소외되었던 연구 대상의 위상을 복권하고 있는 논저들을 다루었다. 신경향파 문학에 대한 재인식이 여기에 속한다. 둘째, 1980년대라는 역사적 특수성에서 비롯된바 프로 문학에 대한 연구자의 과도한 의미 부여에 대해 비판적으로 접근한 논저를 다루었다. 특히 기왕의 프로 문학 연구 방법론이 기대고 있는 다양한 문학사적 도식, 이를테면 리얼리즘/모더니즘, 계급주의/민족주의, 저항/친일 등과 같은 이분법적 시각을 의문에 부치거나 상대화하는 일련의 논저들이 여기에 포함된다. 셋째, 전향문학 연구, 신실증주의적 연구, 비교문학 연구, 북한문학사 연구 등에 대해서도 간략히 살펴보았다. 결국 20세기 말 21세기 초 문학 연구 분야에 새로운 활력을 불어 넣고 있는 다양한 입론들(이를테면 젠더 연구, 문화 연구, 제도 연구 등)에 얼마나 발 빠르게 대응해 나가고 그것을 선도하는가에 따라 프로 문학 연구의 앞길은 다르게 열릴 것이다.
Abstract
This paper attempts to examine the previous studies on proletarian literature from the late 20th century to the early 21th century, focusing on investigating some researches which try to overcome the past studies on proletarian literature in the 1980’s. Firstly, I deal with the researches characterized by their efforts to restore the significance of themes such as Shin-Gyunghyang-pa literature. Secondly, I focus on critical researches reexamining the meaning of past studies on proletarian literature in the 1980’s. Especially, I demonstrate that they play an essential role to problematize the dichotomy between realism/modernism, socialism/nationalism, and resistance/obedience. Thirdly, I deal with the studies on conversion literature, researches on comparative literature, and the studies on the history of North Korean literature. I conclude that the future of the researches on proletarian literature depends on how the individual researchers can invent new perspectives concerning many significant issues such as gender studies and cultural studies.
