Abstract

<The Light in Your Eyes>, a JTBC mini-series projects the reality of a youth on the delirium of an elder. The purpose of this paper is to reject the mainstream interpretation of dramas for the elderly, which describe the steep life stories of old people with dementia (Alzheimer's disease) and provide a different reading. The key point of it is that the dram is not an elderly narrative embodying some elderly problems from a new perspective, by using time leap as a main material, but rather a youth narrative reproducing the youth today, through the social myth of the elderly. To this end, it initially arranges a narrative device for transforming the fantasy of reality into the reality of fantasy and then, investigates the generation discourse suggested by embodying the contemporary crowd of the youth. It, therefore, clarifies that <The Light in Your Eyes> is not, in fact, a fantastic flashback placing then/there of an elder with dementia at the center of the drama, but an actual close-up focused on now/here of a youth today. <The Light in Your Eyes>, a dram is not the elderly but only the youth. This drama symbolically shows that the youth are not different from the elderly, as an alienated class which has been excluded from the front of production of creation, by featuring Kim, Hey-ja, the speaker of it, as a physically elder and a physically youth. Hence, it criticize the reality in which 'youth=elder', an anomalous generation concept can be established. The drama directly expresses such reality as fantasy, rather than straightforwardly accusing it. The clock for time leap and the heroine's delirium function as important narrative devices for accomplishing the probable transposition between reality and fantasy. It naturally put both a youth and an elder in one frame, through the turbulence between them. It thus emphasize the right for young people who live now/hear, as a old youth or an young elder, with the melancholy label, 'the N-Po Generation in Hell-Joseon, the first generation which is poor than their parents' to be brilliant.
