Abstract

The genuine triumph of feministic literary study is possible only on the premise that the writer of the day can develop his own idea of femininity very differently in comparison with the writers of former ages. This study starts under the recognition. Otherwise the feministic criticism might fall into the absurd literary criticism without any prospects. So this study deals with every level of femininity in order to truly understand Lee Tae-jun’s works. It intends to acquire the positive prospect of feministic literary study with the comparison of several writer of the day and with the feministic difference of the writers of former ages. Lee Tae-jun notices the lives of the women under the severe circumstances. The women plunge into the severe circumstances only for basic necessities. As a result, they suffer from spiritual and physical exhaustion. However, the jobs of the women don't mean those of the tie-up. Because they work only when their fathers were away from home. Therefore, with the absence of their fathers, the women under obligations to support their family, show the same lifestyle as the men under the same obligations in their father’s place. The women’s frustration and severe circumstancεs, also mean those of the men who have to face the present difficult situation of the colonized nation. We can see their lives in his works 「산월이」,「어떤 젊은 어미」,「아무 일 없소」. The fallacy can be seen from his standpont as a bystander. By the way in his works, all the male characters show up as spokesmen of true love, while female characters appear as shallow women who step on the men’s true love. Especially in his works 「슬픈 승리자」,「순정」and「코스모스 이야기」the male characters show pure affection, while female characters stamp down their true love and show snobbism. We can say this idea comes from patriarchal system which shows phallicism. But when the women bring up their kids, even the snobbish women are acknowledged as normal persons. In his works,『딸 삼형제』,『성모』and『청춘 무정』the womem show great maternity and receive much recognition with wonderful value in the senses of the times and the society. But this is worth noticing. The women are bound and restricted to the maternity which means to bring up the sons as the next patriarchs. His idea is based on the patriarchal ideology through which the women can get the positive value only when the women bring up the sons. Here we can see the maternity is confined in the 'trap' which strengthen male-centered society. It means that the women fall into the maternity ideology which acquires femininity only when the women exist as good mothers. It also means an incarnation of enormous patriarchal ideology. In conclusion Lee Tae-jun shows the following; first, with the absence of their fathers, the lives of the women replace the masculinity under obligations to support their family. Second, his works only show dividing in two;the men have pure hearts, while the women have vulgar minds. Third, the women can acquire their femininity only when they bring up their sons as the nest patriarchs. All these tell us that his level of femininity means the confirmation or solidification of masculine domination system.
