이 글은 서정주의 시 텍스트에 게재된 몇 가지 문제를 살펴보기 위해 씌어진다.서정주의 시를 집대성한 ‘서정주시전집’은 3종류이며, 대표작을 가려 뽑은 시선집은 10여종에 달한다. 하지만, 시집 원본과 비교할 때, 이들 시집들은 작품연보에서 많은 오류를 범하고 있다. 서지의 충실한 조사 및 확인은 작품 연구의 가장 기초를 이룬다. 서지가 잘못 되어 있다면, 연구자의 해석과 평가가 탁월할 지라도 그 신뢰성을 인정받기 어렵다. 또한 이런 오류는 자칫하면 문학사의 왜곡과 날조로 연결될 수 있다. 하지만, 더 큰 문제는 서정주 자신의 잘못된 기억과 고백이 그런 서지 오류의 주요한 원인이 되고 있다는 사실이다. 미당서정주시전집(민음사, 1983)은 화사집 원본을 새롭게 편집하면서 여러 잘못을 저지르고 있다. 문장부호와 단어는 물론이고, 행과 연의 구분에서도 문제될만한 부분이 많다. 물론 이런 오류는 화사집의 편집과 인쇄상의 문제에 의해 야기된 측면도 있다. 따라서 시건설본과 화사집본의 비교 대조, 그리고 시의 의미와 정서의 흐름 등을 종합적으로 파악해 정본을 확정할 필요가 있다. 그럴 경우, 자화상은 2연 구성이 아니라 3연 구성일 가능성이 크다. 부활에서는 ‘臾娜(유나)’를 어떻게 읽을까 하는 점이 문제가 된다. 이 시가 처음 발표된 조선일보나 서정주시선 등에는 한글로 ‘순아’로 표기되어 있기 때문이다. 또한 서정주의 작품 해설에서도 ‘순아’를 일관되게 사용하고 있다. 이런 정황으로 볼 때, ‘娜(수나)’를 ‘臾娜(유나)’로 잘못 인쇄했을 가능성도 있다.
Abstract
This article is to reconsider several problems in Seo Jung－Joo’s poem text in terms of Textual Criticism. There are three kinds of his complete works and about ten kinds of selection books. Compared with original text, however, these books made so many errors in Seo’s chronological bibliography. The earnest investigation and exact confir- mation is said to be the very base of literary study. If something is wrong with bibliography, the interpretations and evaluations about works is difficult to win confidence even if they are excellent. These errors are liable to cause some distorts and falsehood in literary history. And the more important thing is that Seo’s wrong memories and confession are the main cause of these serious error. The Complete Works of Midang Seo Jung－Joo(ꡔ미당서정주시전집ꡕ) made several mistakes when his original text was newly edited. These mistakes cover words, signs and exact distinctions of line and para- graph. These seems to be caused by problems of editing and printing in the original text of Hwasajip(ꡔ화사집ꡕ). Therefore it needs to decide his canon by comparing Hwasajip with Sigunsul(ꡔ시건설ꡕ) and considering the whole stream of meaning and emotion in his poems. In this case, “Jahwasang”(「자화상」) has a possibility of not being composed of two paragraph but of three paragraphs. “Boohwal”(「부활」) also caused a question how ‘臾娜(yoona)’ should be called. This word is spelled as ‘순아(soona)’ in Selected Poems of Seo Jung－Joo(ꡔ서정주시선ꡕ) and the firstly printed ChosunIlbo(ꡔ조선일보ꡕ). Midang himself consistently uses ‘순아(soona)’ in his self commentary about his poems. In taking these facts into account, ‘臾娜(yoona)’ is probably a wrong－printed version of ‘叟娜(soona)’. These problems should be reconsidered and revised for deciding canons of Seo Jung－Joo.
