Abstract

An unique stature of Petal series in Kim, Soo-young's latter poems is related to great turning points in his poetic exploration since the April 19th Revolution. In general it is said that Kim, Soo-young's poetic interest is inclined to ‘revolution of daily life’ and ‘trivialism’ after the April 19th. But there is foreign poems which is not united to such a coherent trends in his latter period, such as Snow(1966), Petal 1(1967), Petal 2(1967), Grass(1968). Though a few poems, they suggest a new kind of form in which 'Poetic of Whole-body' is realized in a totally different way. In this sense a study on the turning points of Kim, Soo-young's poetics in Kang, Woong-sik and Cho, kang-sok have great significance in that overcome limitations of broad studies sticked to the political sense of the April 19th and make an elaborate exploration of internal logic in Kim, Soo-young's poetic changes. But their studies focused on exploration of poetic changes on the ground of Kim, Soo-young's Poetic theory, and therefore have nothing to put back analysis on practical aspects of individual poems to the later another studies. This study set its face to the practical aspects of Kim, Soo-young's Poetic turning points with an elaborate analysis on Petal series. The April 19th Revolution was a significant event in Kim, Soo-young's poetic world. He was born again as ‘a subject after revolution’ who realized limitations of negativity from a failure of the revolution and aspired toward ‘a dialectics of love’. So it is said that the great turning points of Kim, Soo-young's poetic around 1966 since the April 19th was made in this internal explorations. The turning points that is implied by Kim, Soo-young's terms such as ‘love’, ‘positivity’, ‘relaxation’ etc. is an exploration of a practical methodology for a realization of ‘Poetics of Whole-body’ that is accomplished by an unity of content and form, the politics and the aesthetics. The part of such an exploration is just Petal series that are experimental works to an autonomic transition of languages and things through a fidelity to thing. Therefore ‘Giacomettian turn’ that Kim, Soo-young mentioned in his writings is turn to autonomy from negativity to immediately enter into reality of things or affaires. In this context Kim, Soo-young's a brief meno in Writing Notes 3 can be interpreted to a kind of methodological formula of 'Poetics of Rehabilitation'. It suggests poetic methodology for self-movement of subject-object unity through a transition of things by things, a transition of languages by languages. ‘Poetics of Rehabilitation’ makes it possible to construct an another genealogy of Kim, Soo-young's poetic, a distinct flow from Snow, through Petal series, to Grass. In this genealogy, Petal series have a significant stature as internal completion of ‘Poetics of Whole-body’ in a process of realization of a new poetic turning points around 1966.
