Abstract

Based on the necessity of systematically organizing and analyzing specimens related to Sewol Ferry created so far on the 10th anniversary of Sewol Ferry Event, this study targeted major Sewol Ferry memorial poems. As a methodology, text mining TF-IDF was used to statistically grasp the words and themes of each major part of speech of nouns, adjectives, and verbs, thereby revealing the impact of the Sewol Ferry Event on memorial poetry. It tried to systematically understand the literary response of Sewol Ferry events through quantitative data analysis, and emphasized the importance of qualitative analysis as well as quantitative analysis because the literary value and meaning of poetry cannot be sufficiently explained with quantitative data. In addition, comparing the commonalities and differences between memorial poetry collections, the influence of the Sewol Ferry Event on poetic imagery and language expression was highlighted from various angles. Memorial poetry collections show variations in specific phrases depending on the time they are written and tied. There was a tendency to emphasize sadness and shock of “We were all Sewol Ferry”, memory and truth identification of “Come back to the flower”, and determination and action toward a desirable future of “We cannot let you go far forever”. This study investigated how literature captures complex emotions and social responsibility surrounding the Sewol Ferry Event through the analysis of poetry collections in memory of Sewol Ferry, and through this, reaffirmed the role of literature contributing to the formation of a solidarity of feelings and responsibilities.
