Abstract
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of body weight , blood sugar and lipids on cardiovascular risk factors. The study subjects were selected among individual adults taking health screening checkups of chronic degenerative disease from May 1, 1992 to October 31, 1992 in several general hospitals in Chungbuk. The number of study subjects were 2,917, all over the age of 35 living in Chungbuk. The results were as following : 1. Mean systolic and diastolic blood pressure in study subjects was 120.8 ±19.7 mmHg and 78.8 ± 12.1 mmHg. The systolic blood pressure in males was 123.6 ± 11.8 mmHg , in females 118.4 ± 20.4 mmHg, and the diastolic blood pressure in males was 79.8 ± 11.7 mmHg , and in females 77.8 ± 12.5 mmHg. The mean blood pressure of males was higher than that of females(P<0.01). Blood pressure increase was proportional to age in both sexes. BMI’s proportion of the normal weight group in study subjects was 58.0 %, the obesity group was 27.5 %, and the low weight group was 14.5 %. The blood pressure correlated strongly with the degree of BMI (P < 0.01). 2. The hypertension prevalence rate of study subjects was 14.8 % (male : 16.5 %, female : 13.2 %), and elevated in proportion to increased age(P<0.01). 3. The level of fasting blood sugar of study subjects according to sex , age and BMI was not significantly different , but total cholesterol and triglyceride increased according to sex, age and BMI. The mean value of total cholesterol and triglyceride was 193.0 ± 46.9 mg/dl, and 161.7±114.7 mg/dl , respectively. 4. Mean systolic and diastolic blood pressure between normal and abnormal group according to the level of blood sugar, total cholesterol , and triglyceride was statistically different(P<0.001). 5. Blood pressure in the hypercholesterolemia group was elevated compared to that of the normal group, and that in the hypertriglycemia group elevated compared to that of the normal group. 6. Blood sugar, total cholesterol and triglyceride in the obesty group were elevated compared to the nomal group, total cholesterol and triglyceride in the diabets group , blood sugar and tri glyceride in the hypercholesterolemia group, blood sugar and total cholesterol in the hypertriglycemia group were elevated compared to that of the normal group(P<0.001) 7. The correlation coefficient of systolic and diastolic blood pressure was 0.8372, the highest , of sex and age was 0.3012, of age and systolic blood pressure was 0.2788, of total cholesterol and triglyceride was 0.2565, the lowest(P<0.01). 8. Factors affecting systolic blood pressure were diastolic blood pressure , age and triglyce ride. The coefficient of determination of the above variables was 0.7162. Factors affecting diastolic blood pressure were systolic blood pressure, age , and triglyceride. The coefficient of the determination of the above variables was 0.7037.
