Abstract

This study was carried out to investigate the antimicrobial susceptibility of 330 strains of Pseudomonas aeruginosa isolated from the patients in Seoul, Incheon and Wonju area with 12 antimicrobial agents. The obtained results were as follows ; The antimicrobial susceptibility rates were 94.2 % to lmlpenem, 70.6 % to cefoperazone/ sulbactam , 67.3 % to ceftazidime and ciprofloxacin, while the resistance rates were 58.5 % to cef otaxime and 47.3 % to gentamicin and netilmycin. In Kyung - In area, the antimicrobial susceptibility rates were 93.2 % to imipenem, 73 .1 % to ciprofloxacin, 71.8 % to cefoperazone/ sulbactam, while the resistance rates were 54 .1 % to cefotaxime, 38.2 % to piperacillin and 36 .4 % to ticacillin/clavulanic acid. In Wonju area, the antimicrobial susceptibility rates were 96 .4 % to imipenem , 68.2 % to cefoperazone/sulbactam and 67.2 % to ceftazidime, while the resistance rates were 73.6 % to netilmycin, 71.8 % to tobramycin and 70.9 % to gentamicin. The resistance rate in Wonju area was significantly higher than in Kyung - In area, particullary in the aminoglycoside group - amikacin, gentamicin, netilmycin and tobramycin (P < 0.01).
