초록
This research investigates the role of network centralization in online affinity groups and its influence on social influence during the diffusion of new products. Online communities are often treated as a homogeneous category, overlooking the distinct diffusion mechanisms within online affinity groups-communities formed around shared interests such as music. To address this gap, this study focuses on the structural characteristic of network centralization and its impact on social influence in product diffusion. Using diffusion data from Last.fm, a music-focused online community, the findings reveal that decentralized networks significantly enhance social influence, particularly in scenarios involving high brand equity and strong fit with the group’s shared interests. By offering a detailed exploration of how network structures shape social influence, this research contributes to the literature on product diffusion and provides actionable insights for marketers, emphasizing the need to tailor strategies to the unique dynamics of online affinity groups for optimized resource allocation.
