Abstract
The aim of this paper is to address the necessity of inference in translation. Concerning with the right translation of original sentences into Korean, first of all, translators must know the ultimate wholeness of the image in them, including contexture, schematic knowledge, and systematic knowledge. With respect to these issues, I analyze some examples and, as one way of avoiding mistranslation, remark the validity of inference in many sentences. Thus, as conditions to produce the right translation, I emphasize the stream between writers and translators. Also, I point out the same stylistic value both target languages and source languages, propositional knowledge, and the establishment of the expression in the source language. Consequently, in order to give the right meaning of writers to readers, translators must consider various aspects on the view that contains inference based on utterance, context, and schema, etc., in discourse analysis.
