본 고는 예전의 인식론적 특징들을 탐구함으로써 예전이 인간 형성(formation)에 미치는 영향을 밝히고, 더 나아가 예전과 교육과의 관계를 전망하는 글이다. 이를 위해 본고는 먼저 예전의 인식론적 특징을 ‘참여적 인식’, ‘행동적 인식’, ‘관계적 인식’ 그리고 ‘공동체적 인식’으로 정리하였다. 그러한 예전적 인식론을 바탕으로 해서 보았을 때, 본고는 예전이 그 자체로 인간을 통전적으로 형성하는 인간형성의 자리라고 하는 것을 발견하였다. 예전은 참가자들로 하여금 기독교인으로서 가치와 세계관을 형성하고, 행동을 변화시키고, 하나님과의 인격적 관계를 형성하며, 또한 개인에게 공동체적 정체성을 형성할 뿐 아니라, 공동체 자체를 변형시킴으로서 거기에 속한 사람을 변형시키는 통전적 형성의 자리가 된다. 본고는 또한 이미 예전을 통해서 기독교교육을 재개념화 한 시도들을 살펴보았는바, 웨스터호프, 머피, 무어의 시도가 그것이었다. 고찰을 통해서 본고는 그들에게 예전적 인식론이 교육을 형성’으로, ‘송영’으로, 그리고 ‘성례전’으로 이해하게 하는 안목을 열어주었다는 것을 발견하였다. 이 같은 발견은 예전이 결코 단순히 교육의 ‘수단‘이나 ‘방법‘으로만 머무는 것이 아니라, 그를 넘어서서 교육을 보는 새로운 안목을 열어주고, 그것으로서 기독교교육의 방향을 모색해가는 관점과 틀을 제시한다는 깨달음을 주었다.
Abstract
This essay explores the influences of the liturgy on human formation by exploring the epistemological features of the liturgy, and further examines the relationship between liturgy and education. For this purpose, this paper first summarized the epistemological characteristics of liturgy as 'participative epistemology', 'behavioral epistemology', 'relational epistemology' and 'communal epistemology'. Based on the liturgical epistemology, I found that the liturgy is a place of human formation that forms human beings as a whole. The liturgy allows participants to build values and worldviews as Christians, change behaviors, form personal relationships with God, and form communal identities to individuals, as well as transforming the community itself. It becomes a place for the wholistic formation It also examined attempts to re-conceptualize Christian education through liturgy such as the attempts of Westerhoff III, Murphy, and Moore. It found that the liturgical epistemology opened to them a sense of understanding education as 'formation', 'doxology', and 'sacrament'. This discovery suggests that liturgy is not merely a 'means' or 'method' of education, but rather open up a new perspective on education beyond that, and provide a perspective and framework for seeking new direction of Christian education.
