인명로마자표기 실태 및 분석: 국가대표선수를 중심으로

Abstract
Since the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Korea formally proclaimed its new system of Romanization on July 7, 2000, road signs and official publications such as textbooks have been written according to this new system. To evaluate the new system whether it is adopted to the people or not, this paper investigates and analyzes the Romanization of 2,122 Korean national athletics in 2002-2005, and proposes several suggestions for Korean names with Roman letters. This paper found that only 5.3% follows the new government system for their full names, 19.1% for their family names, and 25.9% for their first names. This shows us that we need the Romanization system for Korean personal names based on English spelling-sound system, which is Romanized differently from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism system.
