본 논문은 사도신경 해설이다. 사도신경은세례식의신앙고백에서비롯되었다. 전승된 사도신경의 본문은 8세기에 처음 나타나지만 그내용은 근본적으로 2세기 말 로마에서 세례 받는 신자에게 주어지던질문의형식(고대로마신조)이확장된내용이다. 이런세례식신앙고백의문답형식은당시다른자료에서도볼수있다. 이런문답형식이얼마나오래 되었는지는 확실히 알 수 없다. 신앙고백은 세례식에서뿐만 아니라 다른 경우에서도 사용되었다:축도, 찬송, 축귀, 이단 반박, 그리고 박해를 받을 때에도 사용되었다. 이런신앙고백은사도신경이발전하기이전에형성되었으며사도신경의내용과상응하는문구들을제공한다. 사도신경의초기역사에대한연구는 때때로 신앙의 규범(regula fidei ; Rule of Faith)24) 연구와 혼동되었다. 2세기와 3세기 초대 교부들의 글에는 기독교 신앙의 요약을 신앙의 규범이라고지칭하는내용들이있다. 그내용은교부들에따라다양하게나타나지만 사도적 설교에 근거한다는 점에서 일치하며, 많은 면에서사도신경의내용과상응한다. 가르쳐지는신앙과 고백되는신앙사이에는 분명히 밀접한 관계가 있다. 그러나 신앙의 규범(regula)과 신앙의고백(credo)은 서로 다른 기능을 지니고 있다. 신앙의 규범이 설교와가르침의요약인반면에신앙의고백은신앙의확인이다. 신앙의고백은세례식과 같은 예배의식에 사용되면서 신앙의 규범이 갖고 있지 않은고정된 진술을 형성하게 되었다. 사도신경연구하는학자들은이단에대항하는내용에많은관심을기울여왔다. 그러나 이 신조는 특별히 이단을 반박하기 위해서 형성된것이 아니라 교회가 시작되던 초기부터 신앙고백의 형태로 그 내용이형성된것이다. 그러나어떤특정한문구나강조점은마르키온이나영자주의자들에 대한 반박으로 이루어졌다고 보인다. 사도신경이 이루어지게된 것은 무엇보다도 먼저 무한하고 삼위일체되시는 하나님께 가까이가는 신비에있다. 그리고 그것은 예배기도에서 그리고 신실한 기독교인의 신앙고백에서 날마다 낭독되고 새로워진다.
Abstract
This article is an exposition of the Apostles’ Creed, which originated from a baptismal confession of faith. Although the received text of the Apostles' Creed occurs first in the eighth century, the contents are essentially an expansion of the positive form (Old Roman Creed) of the questions asked candidates for baptism at Rome at the end of the second century. The interrogatory form of the baptismal confession is attested for this period in other sources. It cannot be ascertained how old this practice was. Cofessions of faith were used on the other occasions in addition specifically to counter heresy, for the content is found from the earliest periods of the church. The specific wording and some of the emphases, however, were likely given in reaction to Marcion and the Gnostics. Most of all, it is in the mystery of the approach of the infinite and triune God that inspired the creed in the first place, and which is daily celebrated and renewed in the liturgical prayer and the confession of the Christian faithful. to baptism: benedictions, hymns, exorcism, combating heresy, and persecution. These confessions form the prehistory and provide parallels to the development the Apostles’ Creed. The study of the early history of the Apostles’ Creed has often confused it with the Rule of Faith (regula fidei). There was obviously a close relationship between the faith that was taught and the faith that was confessed,but the regula and the credo had different functions: the former served as a summery as of the preaching and teaching; the latter, as an affirmation of faith. Much attention in the study of the Apostles’ Creed has been given to its antiheretical thrust. The creed was not formulated
