「지구온난화 1.5℃」 특별보고서는 기후변화가 인류문명에 위기로 다가 오는 현실을 지적하며, 이전까지의 대응방식으로 지구온난화를 해결하려는 시도는 적절하지 않다는 것을 보여주고, 전세계적인 협력과 약자들을 배려 하는 방식으로 지구온난화를 해결해가도록 요청한다. 기후위기를 대처하기 위해서 다양한 기독교윤리적 방법이 제안되었다: 크게 자기중심적 윤리, 인 간중심적 윤리, 생태중심적 윤리, 그리고 생태 공동체적 윤리이다. 생태 공 동체적 윤리는 비폭력적인 방법으로 생태계를 보전함과 동시에 사회적인 약자들을 배려하는 접근이다. 이 접근은 타자로서의 사회적 약자와 생물학 적 약자를 보호하도록 요청하는 포괄적인 접근방법이지만, 문제의 근원으로 제기되었던 주체 혹은 행위자로서의 인간을 역할을 다시금 부각시킨다. 기 후위기의 시대에 생태적 주체로서의 신학적 인간이해는 청지기, 왕, 그리고 손님을 언급할 수 있다. 세 개념 모두 기후위기를 대처하는 생태적 인간의 역할을 강조하고 있지만 각각 경제적 측면이 강조된 인간상(청지기), 민주 주의 시대에 적합하지 않은 인간상(왕), 혹은 수동적 행위자로 남을 수 있는 위험성(손님) 등의 한계가 있다. 특별보고서가 보여주는 기후위기는 그 긴급한 대응방안을 요청하기 때문에, 생태적 인간 이해들을 논의할 때, 기후위 기극복이라는 공동의 목표와 타자 존중과 배려라는 중첩적 토대를 바탕으로 차이점과 한계에 초점을 맞추기보다는 공통점과 협력가능성에 무게를 두고 행동으로 나설 방법을 모색해야 한다.
Abstract
The IPCC Special Report on Global Warming of 1.5℃ points out the reality that climate change becomes a climate crisis for human beings. It urges human civilization to collaborate globally and locally to address global warming in such a way as to keep the global temperature rise lower than 1. 5℃. Various kinds of Christian ethics have been proposed to deal with the climate crisis: Egocentric ethics, Homocentric ethics, Ecocentric ethics, and Eco-community ethics. All of them have strengths and weaknesses in addressing the climate crisis. Among them, the Eco-community ethics is a holistic approach that respects and cares for the socially underprivileged as well as the ecologically deprived including the nature itself. In the Eco-community ethics, humans as agents play a key role. Christianity provides several images of an ecological agent who can addresses the global warming issues: a steward, a king, and a guest. All three concepts emphasize the role of ecological humans in dealing with the climate crisis, but each has limitations: an emphasis on economic aspects of preserving nature (steward), an unsuitable image of human beings in the era of democracy (king), or a risk of being a passive agent (guest). In the context of climate crisis, rather than focusing on differences and limitations of each concepts of ecological human agency, we need to find ways to take action globally and collaboratively, based on the overlapping characteristics such as concern for the other and the common goal of overcoming the climate crisis.
