Abstract
Review and Perspective on the Studies of Ming-Qing Educational and Cultural History in Korea Kim, Han-Shik The intent of this manuscript is to examine results and tasks of educational and cultural history in the study of Ming and Qing history in Korea since liberation of the country in 1945. Up to the present, much of the study of education in the Chinese Ming and Qing period has been done on the educational system and thought. The study shows that at that time the purposes and curricula were relegated to justify the autocratic rule and become the preliminary stage for the civil service examination and lost their own meanings. Although school education was regarded as the preparatory stage for the state examination and made efforts to produce more successful candidates of the examination, the results were insignificant. Accordingly, many people who failed to pass the examination committed evil doings in the rural community. Finally, compared with other fields of the study of Ming and Qing history, the field of history of education including history of culture during the Chinese empires in Korea which depends on a small number of researchers is poor in outcomes.
