Abstract

This research aims to investigate the possibilities of 'another' Korean literature and the changing condition, and its logic of Korean literature in the 21th century, being focused on Korean American children's literature, especially the works of Linda Sue Park. Her experiences cover American society as well as Korean. Therefore, there are the historical and cultural experiences of both countries simultaneously in her works. This effectiveness of juxtaposition and mixture which is resulted from her dual/diasporic identity provides a new perspective in Korean literature and at the same time, visualizes the limitation of the identity which Korean and American societies have already formed. In other words, her works question the classifications of Korea(n) and America(n),and also suggest the possibility of universal worth which could go beyond that kind of classification. Her works pose the problems of how the works are read as well as how the author writes. First, we can find that some intentional points where Korean readers want to eliminate some measure of heterogeneity and that it would work as a medium of intensifying the identification. The discourse of 'Things Korean' which is strengthened in the course of discussion about her works in Korean society isabsorbed into the logic of multicultural project in American society. Eventually, it is said that the process of constructing and disposing 'Things Korean' is repeated while forming a link of circulation.
