전태일의 죽음과 대화적 정체성 형성의 동학

이 글의 목적은 전태일의 죽음을 전한 전태일이야기가 읽히고 쓰인 대화적 관계의 역사적 의미를 살펴보려는 것이다. 전태일이야기에서 전태일은 노동자를 위해 순교를 감행한 신화적 인물로 그려졌다. 전태일이야기를 어떤 입장에서 어떻게 읽느냐는 이야기 정체성을 형성하고 획득하는 경로이자 방식이 되었다. 전태일 이후 1970년대 후반부터 쓰이기 시작하는 노동자수기들은 일정한 위치에서 전태일이야기를 읽은 산물이다. 몇몇 수기들이 보이는 반성적 플롯은 위치잡기의 양상과 효과를 보여주는 것이다. 반성의 플롯은 변혁을 위한 대항권력의 형성을 요구하면서 조직화와 지도/학습을 위한 권력적 위계화를 받아들이게 되는 경로가 되었다. 1977년 발표된 유동우의 수기 「어느 돌멩이의 외침」(『대화』, 1977.1~3)은 그 경로를 예시하는 경우이다. 「어느 돌멩이의 외침」이 제시한 도덕적인 공동체 결속의 요구는 국가주도의 경제개발을 도모한 ‘피통치자의 정치’가 역시 요구했던 바다. 그러나 노동자들이 품성의 공동체를 이룩해가는 이야기는 사실 노동자들 간의 지도와 배움의 가능성을 타진한 것이기도 했다. 이렇게 확보되는 도덕적 자발성이 ‘민중적’ 정체성의 한 부분을 이룬다고 할 때, 품성의 공동체－민중의 상상은 공동체의 쇄신을 말하는 국가담론을 재맥락화함으로써 그 이데올로기적 내용을 탈구축하려는 것이었다고 말할 수 있다. 민중적 연대가 자신들의 말과 법을 찾음으로써 공동체의 공간을 확보하려는 쪽으로 진행되어야 했다면, 그 실현의 구체적인 방도인 정치화는 불가피한 길이었다. 1980년대 중반을 넘기며 노동자들을 이끌 것은 ‘과학적 변혁이론’이고 ‘노동자 계급의 전위정당’이 되었다. 순교의 신화가 과학과 전위의 신화로 바뀌어간 과정은 오히려 윤리적 탐구를 제한하는 강력한 일체화를 요구한 점에서 역시 ‘피통치자들의 정치’의 한 양상이 아닐까하는 생각도 든다.
Abstract
The purpose of this article is look into the historical significance of dialogical relationships that were build after Jeontaeil narrative was written and peoples read that. In Jeontaeil narrative, Jeontaeil was depicted as a mythic figure who martyred for the workers. From what position, and how to read Jeontaeil narrative determined the way and manner that narrative identity was formed. The worker's memoirs written from the late 1970s were the products of reading Jeontaeil narrative in certain position. The reflective plot appeared in some memoirs shows the aspects and effects of positioning. That reflective plot asked the need to form counter power for political transformation, and so forced to receive specific hierarchy for organization and leading/learning of workers. Yudongwoo's memoir, "The call of certain stone" (『Daehwa』, 1977.1~3) was the case that shows how the hierarchisation was proceeded. The "The call of certain stone"'s demand of moral solidarity of worker's community was the demand of 'politics of governed' that planning state-led economic development. However, the narrative that workers are going to achieve moral solidarity examined the possibility of leading and learning workers by themselves. If the moral spontaneity in this way obtained by workers themselves construct the main part of 'Minjung' identity, it can be said the imagnation of Minjung-morally solid community tried to reconstruct the ideological content of state discourse on economic development by re-contextualizing it. If people's solidarity have to progress to secure the space of community by find out their own language and law, politicization as a concrete way is inevitable. After the mid-1980s, workers should be led by 'scientific revolution theory' and the 'vanguard party of the working class'. The process that the myth of martyrdom transformed to myth of science and vanguard shows a certain aspect of 'politics of governed', because this process ordered strong integration that can limit the ethical exploration.
