박두진은 문학과 종교의 관계를 자기 시론의 핵심으로 삼았던 시인이다. 특히 그의 시론은 그의 생애 후기에 집중적으로 발표되었는데, 이때는 그가 ‘수석’에 몰두하던 시기이기도 하다. 박두진은 1970년대부터 수석에 취미를 붙였는데, 그 과정에서 수석에 관한 시(詩)만 3백 편 이상 창작하게 된다. 이른바 ‘수석시(suseok poems)’ 창작과 더불어 그에 대한 시론을 집중적으로 발표하게 되는데, 이것을 ‘수석시론’이라고 한다. 수석시론은 문학과 종교의 관계에 대한 그의 오랜 고민의 완결편이라고 할 수 있다. ‘수석시’를 ‘신앙시’라고 하는 이유가 여기에 있다. 수석은 단순한 돌이 아니라, 자연이면서도 자연을 초월한 존재의 흔적이 남아 있는 작품이다. 자연이면서도 인간이 만든 예술품을 능가한다는 점에서 초월적이다. 박두진의 시는 자연, 인간, 신의 3 단계를 거치고 있는데, 수석시는 수석을 통한 신적인 존재의 현현이라는 점에서 세 번째 단계에 속한다. 이처럼 신과 인간이 수석을 매개로 해서 통합되는 모습은 박두진이 지향했던 ‘신앙시’의 모습이라 할 수 있다. 그것은 시에서 종교적 기능이 회복되기를 바랐던 그의 소망이 실현된 모습이기도 하다.
Abstract
Park Du-Jin is a poet who considered the relationship of Literature and Religion in the core of his theory. Especially, his theory of poems is published intensively in the second half of his life and he concentrated his attention on 'Suseok(水石)' in this period. Park Du-Jin was taking an interest in 'Suseok' since 1970’s and in the process, he had written over 300 poems about 'Suseok'. Along with the creation of 'Suseok Poems(水石詩)', his theory of poems was announced intensively and it was called as 'Theory of Suseok Poems(水石詩論)'. Theory of Suseok Poems is called the completion of his long-time agony about the relationship of literature and religion. It is the reason why 'Suseok Poems' were called as 'Religious Poems'. Suseok is not just simple stone, but it is the nature itself and the remaining work beyond of the nature. It is transcendental because it surpasses the work of art that man-made while a natural. The poems of Park Du-Jin are going through three stages of the natural, human being and gods. Therefore Suseok Poems are belong to the third stage in the manifestation of God through Suseok. In this way, how God and human beings are integrated in the mediating Suseok can be the appearance of Park Du-Jin's 'Religious Poem'. It is also the figure his hope was realized that the religious function is restored in the poems.
