The life history of the Korean language conceptually means the life history of the spoken language and written language character that has been materialized with Korean words and writings. It can be said that interests have recently been raised in the life history of the Korean language at the academic level. Existing studies on the Korean language generally have tended to apply the study-of-the-Korean language criteria at the dimensions of phoneme, vocabulary, grammar and colloquy. The study of the life history of the Korean language is primarily aimed at describing and systematizing the developmental picture of the communication modes in the Korean-speaking community on the foundation of the outcomes obtained from studies on the history of the Korean language, the educational history of the Korean language and the cultural history. The study on the life history of the Korean language can be systematized in with due regard to the mode of existence of the language, used characters, purpose of the linguistic use and the like, and for this purpose importance is attached to collecting and classifying basic materials.
