고전에 대한 관심이 사회적으로 확산되면서 다양한 형태의 책들이 등장하였다. 그 덕분에 접근하기 어려운 곳에 위치해 있던 고전은 우리 주변으로 와서 독자들을 유혹한다. 고전은 다층적인 해석의 층위를 지니기 때문에, 그것의 본령에 접근해서 의미를 파악하는 것은 어려운 일이다. 고전을 다시 써서 독자들이 쉽게 고전의 바다로 들어설 수 있도록 하는 작업은 언제나 필요하다. 하나의 책이 고전으로 인정받기 위해서는 이전의 사유 구조에 균열을 일으킬 만한 해석적 층위를 가져야 한다. 그 해석들은 기존의 생각과 맞서서 자신의 영역을 확보해야 하고, 그러한 투쟁을 통해서 새로운 사유의 지평을 연다. 과거의 생각들과 완전히 단절된 상태에서 새로운 사유 지평이 나타나는 것이 아니라는 점을 주목할 필요가 있다. 사상 투쟁을 거치면서 자연스럽게 과거의 목소리를 내면화한다. 다만 그 목소리가 자신만의 방식에 의해 변주되면서 기존의 사유에 균열을 일으키면서 자신의 생각을 드러내는 중요한 출발점이 된다. 새로운 생각은 이미 확립되어 있는 고전을 훼손하거나 재해석하면서 형성된다. 그런 점에서 볼 때 하나의 고전이 탄생하는 것은 굳은 해석을 잘게 부수어 새로운 해석의 가능성을 만드는 것에서 시작된다. 고전의 대중화에 대한 우려가 높은 만큼 새로운 고전의 탄생을 기대하는 목소리가 높아진다. 그 가운데서 많은 논쟁과 해석, 사유 등이 표출되고, 그것은 우리 시대의 새로운 고전을 준비하는 신호탄이기도 할 것이다.
Abstract
As the interest in classics grew socially, various forms of books appeared. Due to this, the classics that were looked up as something inaccessible came within our reach and lure us with their charms. For the classics have multiple layers of interpretation, it is a difficult job to reach the essence and grasp the meanings. It is always necessary to rewrite the classics so that the readers can delve into the sea of classics more easily. For a book to be recognized as classics, it must possess the interpretive layer that could create cracks in the existing structure of thoughts. These interpretations must confront the existing thoughts and secure their territory; and these confrontations open up new horizon of thoughts. It must be noted that new horizon of thoughts do not emerge from a complete severance from the past ideas. Through the ideological struggles, they naturally internalize the voices of the past. However, the voices are altered by their own ways and become the starting point for creating ruptures in the existing thoughts and revealing theirs. New thoughts are formed as they desecrate or reinterpret what was already established. In this sense, classics are born when firm interpretations are taken apart and the possibilities of new interpretations are created. As much as one is worried about the popularization of classics, one also anticipates the birth of new classics. During that process, many arguments, interpretations and thoughts will be born and this would be the signal for us to greet the new classics of our age.
