Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to explore the notion of 'ethics' and poetic appropriation in the poetry of Kim Hyun - seung (1913 ~ 1975). It ultimately aims to grasp the interlocking relationship between Kim Hyun Seung 's poetry and his work, and to understand the meaning of humanity which he intends to pursue through' ethics' in poetry, and to clarify the aesthetic structure of 'ethics' of individual psalms. The main concern of this paper is to use the concept of 'ethics' in Kim Hyun Seung' s poetry and to approach the poetic subject through the keyword 'ethics' as to which poetic strategy he tried to implement to construct his identity. In particular, the debate on religion, which has a place in the dominant discourse related to Kim Hyun - seung, may also be revised in favor of this study. Kim Hyun Seung did not pursue 'ethics' for religion but because he demonstrated his religious imagination for 'ethics'. For example, in Kant's case, he could only accept religion as ethical. Based on these points, Kim Hyun Seung extracts the concept of 'ethics' from the poetry, grasps the meaning of humanity he intends to aim at, and reveals the aesthetic structure of 'ethics' of individual psalms. As is well known, Kim Hyun Seung is a poet who has a very unique position in Korean modern affairs. He left a variety of prose and poetry together with poetry, which showed a uniform perfection of ideological orientation and formal achievement, and he left a rare intellectual trajectory in literature history and poetry history. In particular, his poetic inquiry results in the completion of metaphysical solitude. It seems that Kim Hyun–seung 's municipal government had a certain influence on many junior writers and researchers.
