초록
Peaches are deciduous trees in the Rosaceae family that grow in many regions of the world, valued for their fruit, which is consumed in a variety of forms, including fresh, canned, and dried. In Korea, peach cultivation has been expanding, with new orchards often established on former rice paddies or upland fields. This study examined the soil environment of major peach cultivation areas in Korea to analyze soil characteristics that have a significant relationship with peach fruit quality and fruit physiological disorders. The results showed that 43.4% of orchard soils were previously rice paddies, with frequent applications of organic fertilizers, mostly compost. Soluble solid content, which is important for peach marketability, was negatively correlated with fruit water and nitrogen levels, which were significantly higher in orchards established on former rice paddies. In addition, physiological disorders such as leaf chlorosis were identified as problems caused by poor drainage. Therefore, it is recommended that active water management should be carried out in consideration of the previous land use of peach orchards to improve fruit quality.
