자치시대 NGO의 네트워크화 결정요인에 관한 연구

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine the causes of a recent phenomenon, the network formation among Korean nongovernmental organizations(NGOs). Utilizing the transaction cost approach(TCA), this study examines the level of transaction costs between the NGOs and their main resources of voluntary professionals on the one hand, and demanding citizens on the other hand, the two determining factors in the choice of the NGOs' organizing type. On this basis, this study tests whether the change in the level of the transaction costs has any significant correlation with the networking of the NGOs through the analysis of a survey on the staff members of the NGOs. The test results are: 1) there is a statistically significant difference in the level of the supply-side transaction cost and the network formation between 1995 and 2000, and these two variables are negatively correlated, 2) the demand-side transaction cost reveals no significant difference between 1995 and 2000, and does not confer any meaningful relationship with the network building. The latter suggests that the uncertainty and complexity of environment are effectively controlled through the accumulation of expertise in related issue areas.
