Abstract

The Local Referendum Law was enacted in December 2003 in accordance with the legislative requirement of Local Autonomy Law, and it has been put in force at Jeju do as the referendum for transform the self-government. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the local referendum system in korea. First, this study investigates the theoretical review on referendum system as a form of direct democracy. The local referendum system should be introduced for the local democracy. Therefore I evaluate our local referendum system and compare with other countries. Finally, this paper proposes several amendment in our local referendum system.
