이 글의 목적은 매킨타이어의 목적론 재건의 윤리학적 함의를 밝히는 데 있다. 그의 논의를 통해 볼 때, 목적론의 재건은 도덕교육 이론으로서의 윤리학을 복원하고자 한 노력으로 해석될 수 있다. 도덕교육 이론으로서의 윤리학은 도덕의 직접적인 정당화를 추구한 근대 이후 윤리학의 인식론적 접근과 달리, 도덕성의 의미를 해명하고 도덕교육의 실천을 설명하는 이론으로서의 역할을 한다. 도덕교육 이론으로서의 윤리학에서는 도덕의 정당화가 도덕교육의 선결 과제가 아니라, 오히려 도덕교육의 실천에 의해 확립되는 것으로 간주된다. 이 점에 비추어 볼 때, 윤리학에 주어진 과제는 매킨타이어에 의해 실현 불가능한 것으로 지적된 도덕에 대한 직접적인 정당화가 아니라, 도덕의 정당화가 이루어지지 않은 상태에서도 도덕교육이 가능하다는 것을 이론적으로 설명하는 것에 있다고 볼 수 있다.
Abstract
The purpose of this article is to elucidate the ethical implications of MacIntyre's reconstruction of teleology. Based on the discussion of MacIntyre, reconstruction of teleology can be understood as an effort to restore ethics as a moral education theory. Ethics as a theory of moral education plays a role as a theory to explain the meaning of moral education and the possibility of moral practice, unlike the epistemological approach of post-modern ethics which seeks direct justification for morality. The point of attention in moral education as moral education theory is that moral justification pursued in post-modern era is regarded as being established by practice of moral education rather than as a preliminary task of moral education. In this way, the task given to ethics can be said to be theoretically explaining that moral education is possible even if the justification of morality is not done, not directly justification of morality.
