본 연구는 소크라테스의 기술과 행복의 관계를 살피고 초등도덕교육의 입장에서 적합성을 검토하였다. 이를 위해서 우선 전문가의 ‘기술’(techn)처럼 행복에도 기술이 필요하다는 소크라테스의 입장을 살펴보았다. 둘째로 본 연구는 기술로서의 덕과 행복의 관계를 이해하는 방식에 대한 이견을 살펴보고, 현대 도덕교육에 어떤 해석이 유용한지를 살펴보았다. ‘도구주의적 충분성 테제’는 덕이 행복을 위한 유일한 수단으로 보고 인간에게 유익한 다른 것들을 부정한다. 그러나 ‘구성요소적 충분성 테제’는 덕을 다른 좋은 것들과 행복을 연결시키는 주도적인 가치로 인정하면서 동시에 다양한 가치들을 인정한다. 본 연구는 가치의 다양성을 중요한 현대의 초등도덕교육에서 ‘구성요소적 충분성 테제’가 더 의미가 있을 것이라고 주장하였다.
Abstract
This paper examines the relationship between Socrates' technology and happiness, and examines its suitability from the perspective of elementary moral education. To this end, first of all, I looked at Socrates' claim that happiness also requires craft(techn), just like the expert's craft. Second, this thesis examines disagreements on how to understand the relationship between virtue as a technology and happiness, and examines what interpretations are useful for modern moral education. ‘The Instrumental Sufficiency Thesis’ sees virtue as the only means for happiness and denies other things that are beneficial to humans. However, ‘The Component Sufficiency Thesis’ recognizes virtue as a leading value that connects other good things to happiness, while also acknowledging various values. This study argued that ‘the Component Sufficiency Thesis’ would be more meaningful in contemporary elementary moral education that values diversity in values.
